Deconstructed dance notation systems create a drawing that doubles as a graphic score for dancers
These drawings or graphic scores indirectly reference dance notation systems and deconstruct specific symbols and score structures. My interest is in making drawings that can stand alone as a graphic, linear and in parts gestural abstraction but that also contain rules within the marks that the dancers are aware of and that they use to interpret the piece. I want for the work to be both a drawing and an event. The drawings are not intended to communicate literal dance steps to the performer, but rather to give them a set of guidelines from which they can improvise.
