We leave traces behind us in the places we move through: shadows of the universal understood through the marks of the individual.

Abstracted place or landscape combined with references to gesture, momentum, timing and sound quality, create a liminal tension of parts: a gentle tug. It is the catch between inhale and exhale, the heave between silence and great noise.

Layers of silken paper, translucent cloth, porcelain surfaces and wicking ink force many perspectives into one drawing. Top and bottom become beneath and over, hidden and revealed, under ground above ground, past and now.

Actions: make, press, place, cover, uncover, draw, smudge, lace, wipe, thread, rub, disintegrate, cut.

Ideas find their process and initiate the making of the work as active metaphor. The material enters this call and response; they cannot be separated.

Touch, tarry, face - cling, linger, lose - act, rest, remark -
forgive, surrender, violate, break

Tell the truth. Seduce the material. Trust your hands.
